Real-time answers from raw sequencing signals—at the edge.

A plug-in FPGA module that matches third-generation sequencing signals directly against reference patterns. No basecalling. No cloud. No laptop.

DNA sequencing is fast. Interpreting it in the field is not.

Third-generation sequencing devices produce a continuous stream of raw electrical or optical signals as DNA molecules are read. Today, converting that raw signal into an actionable answer—Is this pathogen present? Is this sample authentic?—requires sending data to a laptop or cloud server running computationally intensive basecalling software.

That makes real-time, low-power, field-deployable sequencing impractical for most use cases. Cloud dependency adds latency, cost, privacy risk, and unreliable connectivity requirements.

Match signals directly—without basecalling.

A plug-in FPGA module acts simultaneously as a USB host for the third-generation sequencing device and as a real-time signal processor. Raw signals stream directly into the FPGA fabric, where they are compared against preloaded reference signal patterns. When a match is detected, an interrupt is generated within microseconds.

  • No basecalling
  • No cloud
  • No laptop

No more sending samples to a centralized laboratory—get results in the field, the same day.

Core capabilities

  • Real-time signal matching

Skips the processing-heavy basecalling step entirely.

  • Low-power edge operation

Ideal for true field deployment and remote locations.

  • Standalone sequencer host

Eliminates the need for bulky external computing.

  • Configurable reference library

Swap out target pathogen or genetic profiles instantly.

Where edge interpretation matters

  • Agricultural biosecurity
  • Food safety & supply chain security
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Defense & CBRN
  • Pandemic & outbreak response

Built to defend

  • Architecture moat

Bypasses the basecalling software stack. Matching in FPGA fabric follows a different cost and latency curve than cloud pipelines.

  • Integration moat

USB host and processing in one module reduce field system complexity and dependence on laptops or cloud backends.

  • Operational moat

Swappable reference libraries enable rapid retargeting without redeploying software infrastructure.

A growing need for answers at the point of need

Portable sequencers are moving closer to the sample—farms, ports, clinics, and forward deployments. Regulators and operators increasingly expect faster detection, stronger chain-of-custody, and less reliance on centralized labs.

Sigtrace targets the gap between raw instrument output and actionable field intelligence: real-time interpretation where connectivity, power, and time are constrained.
